I have rescued a European Starling.
The local bird sanctuaries will not accept it as they are considered a non-native species.
I am willing to keep and care for the Starling which we have named Spirit, but I can't continue to keep it in a box much longer. It needs a cage. Please help me provide a new home for this lovely baby.
We found Spirit on our concrete steps at what we think was about 7 days old. It appears to not have been injured in it's fall. It had it's feather shafts, but they were not yet turning into feathers. The nest that Spirit came from is somewhere on our roof, but with the garage being our first floor, that makes the 3 story roof just too high for us to have returned it to.
Starlings can live 15-20 years, so this is a long term commitment for me. They can make good pets and can even learn to talk. They are very social and because Spirit will be an only bird will require a lot of interaction from me. I'm very willing to take on the responsibility of keeping Spirit, but I could really use some help getting started as this isn't a planned pet adoption. This is actually the second Starling that I've rescued. The first was just a few days old and did get injured. At about the age that Spirit is now, a local bird sanctuary accepted it. But this year they seem to be sticking to their insistence that Starlings are non-native to the area.
